Copywriting and content editing for women in business

Helping you communicate what you do best is what I do best

Businesswoman juggling (as we all do)

Too much to do?

I’m a business owner . . . and mum, step-mum, grandma, wife . . . I’m forever juggling too, and working out what I can outsource to make running my business (and my life) a little easier.

You (we) can’t do everything.

Businesswoman shouting through a megaphone

Message not clear?

You may be too close to your business to write about it from your customers’ perspective. Perhaps you don’t think your writing is great (I love writing, but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea).

Can’t find the right words?

Eager customers in a long queue

Want more customers?

Clear and compelling writing will engage your target audience and persuade them to take action. But it can be difficult to work out who you want to speak to, what to say, and what your goals are.

Would you like some help?

You might be feeling as if you should be able to do this

After all, you know your business better than anyone else. How could anyone else write about it in the way you can?

Writing to engage and persuade a specific audience is not the same as other writing you may be more comfortable with. It requires a funny mixture of art and science to get the right words in the right order.

But there’s more to it than just writing

It’s about looking at your business from a different perspective and understanding how to use the right information and the right words to interest and motivate the people you’re trying to communicate with.
Yes, you know your business well, but a fresh perspective can be invaluable for helping you to look at things from your customers’ point of view.

And the reality is you’re busy

It can be difficult enough simply to find decent chunks of time (free from interruption) to be able to concentrate on the writing your business needs.
Of course if you do have time to find out more, copywriting can be great fun – I love that I can start sentences with and and but; I feel like such a rebel.

Imagine what it would be like if you could . . .

. . . have more time to spend on the things you enjoy – in your business and at home

. . . feel confident, knowing your words showcase what you do and convey the right message

. . . bring in more sales from a growing list of loyal customers, without having to work any harder

You’re in the right place

Whether your challenge is one of time or inspiration, I can help you find the words you’re looking for.

Once I get to know you and find out more about your business, we can make sure your business writing sounds like you, is honest and open, and allows you to sell your services without feeling fake or pushy.

Helping you communicate what you do best is what I do best

What do I do?

I help businesswomen write their websites and marketing materials so they can feel more confident about them and have more time to spend on other things.

I offer a range of writing and editing services which help you to increase your sales and profitability through clear and compelling communication with your target audience.

If you’re like most of my clients, you probably want me to edit something you’ve been struggling with writing yourself. You’re not really happy with the results and don’t want to spend any more of your precious time trying to get it right.

I can make your draft sound great – both to you and, more importantly, to your customers – while ensuring it still sounds like you.

It’s your passion and enthusiasm,
I simply find the right words to convey it.

  • Proofreading

If you’re happy with what you’ve written, I can proofread your work for spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes, so you can be confident silly errors aren’t distracting your customers and letting you down.

  • Editing

If you’ve been working on a draft, but think your word choice could be better, I can edit your material so it flows beautifully and says exactly what you and your customers need to see.

  • Copywriting

If you’re not sure where to start, I can do the research and information gathering and present you with something fresh, clear and compelling which sounds like you and meets your business objectives.

I can proofread, edit or write your . . .

Content.ed Copywriting and Content Editing Services

I offer a broad range of copywriting, editing and proofreading services, which are tailored to your needs and therefore priced individually.

I’d love to have a simple price list, but it isn’t possible because there are so many factors to consider when I look at a potential project.
I always provide an upfront quote once we’ve discussed how I can best help you.

I offer a selection of pre-priced introductory services which are great value and offer a cost-effective taster of how copywriting can help you and your business.

I don’t have time to help everyone, so if you have time to pick up a few tricks of the trade yourself, download my FREE report – 10½ Ways to Improve Your Content.

Why me?

My name is Kerry Newman, and Content.ed is my writing and editing business.

My interesting and varied career experience means I bring a fresh and practical approach to each writing assignment. I love helping women in business find better ways to let their customers know how great they are.

I’m not interested in clever or pretentious wording, unless that’s relevant to the product or service you’re promoting. My passion is for clear communication: simple words to explain what you offer and let the reader know a) why she should be interested and b) what to do next.

I always provide an all-inclusive price up front, so you’ll have no unpleasant surprises.

Then I work with you until you’re happy with the words we’ve created.

If you’re not Content.ed, there’s no charge.

  • Why use a copywriter?

If you like to feel in control, know first impressions count, want to improve your marketing success, and enjoy feeling confident your business looks professional, you’ll love what a copywriter (like me) has to offer.

A copywriter can convey your voice, your passion, your vision, your offer – all wrapped up in words your customers will find irresistible.

  • Will it be expensive?

The right words bring in more sales. Bigger companies know this, and are happy to pay for the competitive advantage professional writing gives them. You can benefit too, even if your business (and marketing budget) is relatively small.

If it would take you hours (weeks?) of stress and turmoil to write something you’re happy with, then paying for (a smaller chunk of) my time is a good investment, allowing you to relax and concentrate on other areas of your business.

If you’re paying for a graphic designer, website designer or printer, at first glance copywriting may look like an additional expense you could do without . . . until you realise your design and print costs might be wasted if the words you use don’t work properly.

Think instead about the lifetime value of new customers for your business. How many new customers would you need to make my services good value?

Who do I work with?

Where do I work?

As a copywriter and content editor, all I really need is my laptop and my reading glasses, so I work from home.

There are pros and cons to this, as many of you will know. We’ve recently moved to Looe, and I’m enjoying my new office, although there’s still some sorting out to do and the room needs to be stripped properly and painted.

If you’re close to Looe, it would be great to meet up for a coffee to find out more about you and your business.
I love working with local businesses, and I enjoyed networking in Northampton. Nothing beats meeting up in person (and I’m happy to grab any opportunity for a decent cappuccino).

We can still work together if you’re not local. I have clients I’ve only met through email, phone and Skype, and we work together very well, so location isn’t a problem.

Are my customers contented?

I can put my personality across in person, but not as easily when I write. Kerry took my existing website text, along with notes she made during our meeting, and I loved some of the ideas she came back with.

I thought hiring a copywriter was a bit of a luxury [and had]  reservations about whether someone else would be able to understand my business in the same way I do, but I was really impressed with how quickly Kerry ‘got’ me and my business.
